Women's Basketball Championship History: 1982 through Present

Women's basketball championship history dates back to 1982 when Louisiana Tech defeated Cheyney State 76 to 62 in Norfolk, Virginia. Five schools have won two or more titles in the history of the NCAA women's basketball tournament. Tennessee has won the NCAA women's tourney seven times followed by Connecticut with five titles and Stanford, Louisiana Tech, and USC with two NCAA women's national championships each. Old Dominion, Texas, Texas Tech, North Carolina, Purdue, Notre Dame, Baylor, and Maryland all have one title. The 2008 NCAA women's national championship will be played at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida on April 8. Selection Monday is March 17 with first round games on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23 followed by second round action March 24 and 25.
