Seed by Seed NCAA Women's Tournament Bracket Trends

Number 1 and 2 seeds have largely dominated the NCAA women's tournament bracket ever since the NCAA started fielding a tourney back in 1982. In fact in 5 of the last 8 years the women's Final Four has been totally comprised of number 1 and 2 seeds. To go one step further we can actually say that in recent history number 1 seeds have ruled the NCAA women's tournament bracket as there have been three number 1 seeds in four of the last six Final Fours. Some more women's tournament facts:

Number 1 and 2 seeds have completely filled 13 out of 26 Final Fours since the NCAA women's tournament began in 1982.

Only 6 teams seeded lower than number 4 have ever made the women's Final Four.
No team seeded higher than 3 has ever won the women's national championship.

Number 1 seeds have won 18 of the 26 women's national championships.

Number 2 seeds have won the NCAA women's tournament bracket 6 times.

Number 3 seeds have taken home the women's basketball title 2 times(1994 and 1997).

When filling out your NCAA women's tournament bracket, there is nothing wrong with having two or three number 1 seeds in the Final Four. That's the way it usually plays out. Each year there seems to be four or five women's teams that are heads and shoulders above the rest. Those teams always end up slated as number 1 or 2 seeds so don't be afraid to advance those seeds deep into your NCAA women's tournament bracket.
